I am obsessed with food! If I'm not making it or eating it, I'm constantly learning about it. Life's too damn short to eat crummy food!
My first food memory is of my dad teaching me how to make an omelette when I was 7 years old. From there I wanted to be more and more involved in the kitchen. My mom bought me children's cookbooks and let me pick out a recipe to try to make every week. By the time I was in high school, I was cooking for the family a few nights a week, hosting fancy dinner parties for my friends, and pouring over any cookbook or cooking magazine I could afford.
In my 20's, I was a co-owner of a little gourmet food store, The Healthy Gourmet, in Athens, GA. To help promote our products, I started teaching cooking classes at a local kitchen store and private in home lessons as well. I also did some very light food writing for our local newspaper - which sounded more glamorous and fun than it was.
But food has always been my artistry. I feel relaxed when I'm cooking, yet in total control of what I'm doing, what I'm making, timing, and ingredients. Half the time I have no solid plan until I get started... and that's okay with me. My best recipes have been born from my own chaos. I rarely use a recipe, but I read them to constantly to be inspired. And I'm not going to lie, there is nothing more satisfying than hearing The Boyfriend gush about my cooking to other people and how I've ruined him for restaurants. He is proof that a way to a man's heart is through his stomach.
